Hello Winter, Goodbye Teeth

Hi! Tomorrow a man is going to yank out my wisdom teeth! I can't wait 'till that's done with.

Right now I have a full plate with the upcoming Team JAM anthology. I have 5 pages of Andy penciled and I have a max of 24 pages to do (12 per issue). That'll be a two part Andy story (five pages each, perhaps), a two part Erik in Outer Space story (four pages each) and anything else I might do. I've been toying around with the idea of a one pager called "American Comix" but then I realized I'd just come up with "Rocket Tonic" by Pranas. This brings me to my next point. Me and Joe are going to be asking for some guest pages, so if you're reading this (and you're not Joe or myself or Amy) comment and state your case.

Here is something from last quarter! My watercolor piece that was up on the wall, now with added bubbles!
MANDO DIAO'S HELPING HAND
The band featured in the page is "Mando Diao." They're a Swedish band who've been around for a few years now, but have never broken into the States or the UK properly. Find out more about them here.

That's it for now, kids!

Ah... Paris!

EDIT: I could have sworn I posted this, but it says here that it's only a draft.

Hello! Another new post!

This time I have my value project from Larison's Materials & Techniques class! This one is the [pirate/rodeo clown/lovers/dancers] with a [car/motorbike/ambulance/firetruck] in [Paris/New York/a Tokyo market/River Street] project that everyone does. I did it in what I refer to as my "generic cartoon style" which borrows from old Looney Tunes and Tex Avery cartoon styles. This one made it up on the wall too!

A rare handful might recognize the pirates as Captain Pugwash and Cutthroat Jake (from right to left) from the old Captain Pugwash cartoons on the BBC. Well done if you spotted them!

PARIS PUGWASH PIRATE PANIC
This extra little bonus here is a picture of Bailey I drew in Lyle's class!

BAILEY

Also, I'm working on a new mini comic with Joe and Amy, featuring Andy The Retard, Lil' Chode & Richard, Amism, Erik in Outer Space and more! I've already got the cover done as well as the first page of the new Andy story penciled! More on that as it progresses! It's due out mid-January, so start saving up!

Something Old

Since SCAD got out, I've been sorting through my files and folders on my laptop to get rid of a lot of the crap I have on here. I ran into a few files that I'd done back in high school. Back then, I drew a lot of Akira Toriyama inspired manga styled stuff. I even did it reading from right to left! Say what you will, but that's what I was into back then and I maintain that Akira Toriyama's Dragon Ball series is a freakin' kickass manga.

The series was called "Urban Ninja" and I used to post it up on a board at my highschool. I had a few fans and readers and I enjoyed doing it. Looking back now, it was a bit silly and I do believe the main character was a Mary-Sue or Mary-Jane or whoever it is. Here's a particularly fun title page I did of Hiro (the story's hero... geddit?) being escorted out of purgatory by a little dude I called the Ferryman. It was a silly part of the story that I just suddenly thought would be fun to do in the middle of the plot!

I'd never do that now! Or would I? Here's the pic:

Hm... looks like blogger inverted the colors. It looks so cool!
This is crap, now it won't load properly! Let's see if it does it normally next time.

It was in CMYK. There's the problem...

Hobbes Goes Bonkers

If you've been in Norris, you might have seen my Calvin & Hobbes scratch board up on the wall. I'd just like to take this opportunity to say I friggin' LOVE the scratch board! I was tough trying to get Calvin to look like he was drawn by a pen on scratch board. I had to transfer my pencil outlines onto the board, then outline those outlines in white, without causing any breaks in overlapping outlines! Ink never touched the board, there are no corrections or anything. All the white you see has been scraped away!

The second part of the project was to add speech bubbles and extra sound effects (in at least 3 places). These aren't present in the physical version, save for Hobbes' "rawr."

Things are shaping up pretty nicely, finalswise. It all looks very doable! (Let's hear me say that on Wednesday night when I'm rushing to finish Larison's acrylic landscape!)

There's be more to come when break begins!

New strip! Deary me!

Hello all!

I believe it's time for a new post! Things are getting busy right now at SCAD for me, but nothing I can't handle (assuming I don't goof off like I know I will). Right now I have a scratch board page, an acrylic landscape, some digital speech bubbles, a script submission packet for either Dark Horse or Fantagraphics and finally, a math test. I'm looking forward to doing the scratch board page tonight and tomorrow night, as I have a really cool idea! The submission packet will be a plot synopsis for a story called "Hobgoblin" which is based on the ale of the same name! It's a little more serious than I usually write, so I'm giving it a more lighthearted angle right now. The math test? Feh.

Comixtravaganza has been canceled for this quarter, so my page for that is on hold. I'm going to finish it, but it'll just be for fun and will probably just sit in the vaults for a while. As far as Andy strips go, I'm not submitting any more for this quarter, as I've submitted enough for it to run until Christmas break (assuming there's room for me every time!).

Here is this week's strip! It's getting exciting now! I just introduced Mel into the story. For those who are unfamiliar with the original "run" of Andy The Retard, Mel was Andy's 26 year old girlfriend. Since the storyline started over, she's no longer his girlfriend. Will he get the girl AGAIN? A lot of people see her and think she's Bailey, my Gee-Eff, but I can assure you all, that's not so. I created her long before I met Bailey! Anywho:
SHOT DOWN

Also, this just popped into my head. I claimed once that Andy's single green eye in in homage to Earthworm Jim. That's a lie. The single green eye came from when I first started sketching Andy properly, I drew his eye too small, and it looked like an iris.

Don't get me wrong, though. EWJ was awesome.
